| The term "dock" is applied
to a number of wayside plants with large leaves, for example, burdock, (
Arctium spps.) and round-leaved dock, (Rumex obtusifolius). Yellow dock,
or curly dock, (Rumex crispus), has long slender leaves with wavy edges.
The golden-brown seeds on spikes are a familiar sight along roadsides and
fields in late summer and fall. The root is yellowish, 8 to 12 inches long,
and shaped like a parsnip.
Yellow dock promotes the flow
of bile, which helps digestion and elimination. This valuable aid to the
digestive system helps eliminate digestive distress and gas.
Yellow dock is a prime ally for
those with iron deficiency. Another herbal source of absorbable iron is
nettle. |
